Interpreting Horizontal Wells in Recon

Recon's 3D geological interpretation environment is ideal for for horizontal well interpretation. By integrating 3D, projected 2D Correlation, Basemap, and Measured Depth views, Recon provides an unparallelled decision support environment for the interpretation of horizontal wells.

A horizontal well log template in Recon's 2D Correlation window shows gamma ray and resistivity curves for a well projected into the cross-section. Multiple picks for the red top horizon and blue base horizon can be made directly on the well log, updating the true surface profiles in real time:

Using Multiple Interpretation Views to Analyze Horizontal Wells

You can interpret horizontal wells in Recon using the 2D correlation window, the 3D view, and the basemap. Recon tracks your cursor location in all of its 3D and 2D basemap and correlation views:

Interwell Picking on Horizontal Wells

Making an interwell pick to position the base of the zone below the well trajectory properly constrains this horizontal well to the reservoir zone. The yellow vertical line in the 3D view represents the 3D tracker showing the cursor location in the 2D correlation window:

You can interpret interwell picks directly in 2D correlation (e.g. using seismic backdrops) reconciling the geological zone interpretation with complex horizontal well trajectories.
